To Corset or Not to Corset?

To Corset or Not to Corset?

For the uninitiated, a corset is a form of undergarment to support the bust and define the waistline. Usually it is worn by women, although in certain cases by men as well. Corsets are also worn for spinal support or to achieve a certain shape for aesthetic reasons. The corset was frequently worn by Western women until bras became more famous in the 1920s and 1930s.

Most corsets are available in the form of fabric or leather with hard strips known as boning for better support. These days, corsets use plastic boning as they are much lighter. Corsets typically lace up at the back but there are some that lace up in the front. A number of back-laced types also have buttons or hooks on the front to secure it in place.

The thing about corset is it gives the wearer a smaller waist in an instant. All it takes is just some simple adjustments of the laces to reduce the size of the waist. Worn right, it is possible to alter the waist with a corset to give a slim waist that many women long for when all other methods have been unsuccessful. It is important to know how to wear a corset correctly so that you will obtain the desired results without injuring yourself or cause your movements to become inhibited.

However, nowadays corsets are usually worn as a fashion statement rather than support garments. In fact many tops that resemble traditional corsets are also labeled as corsets, even if they do not support or shape the torso. Corsets give proportion and definitely makes the wearer look good without much effort.
